Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas, Junior Achievement of Dallas and Junior Achievement of Fort Worth, and local residents Dr. John Richardson and Sarah Baldwin to be recognized

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 22, 2009-- Sprint (NYSE:S) announced today the recipients of its 2009 Dallas/Ft. Worth community-giving programs. The Sprint Local Grant Program will award two $25,000 Sprint Foundation grants to Dallas/Ft. Worth-area programs that support Sprint’s focus area of youth development. In addition, the Sprint Community Champions Program will honor two outstanding Dallas/Ft. Worth-area residents who have made a positive impact on the community with Sprint Foundation grants to qualified non-profit organizations of the honorees’ choice. The recipients will be recognized and honored at an upcoming celebration in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.

RECIPIENTS AND HONOREES:

• Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas was selected as a 2009 Sprint Local Grant Program recipient and will receive a $25,000 Sprint Foundation grant for its Project Learn program. Project Learn is an approach to education that incorporates curriculum to address the primary areas of the Texas Essentials Knowledge and Skills test and uses strategic learning techniques throughout their 5 Core Areas: Education & Career Development; Character & Leadership Development; Health & Life Skills; The Arts; and Sports, Fitness & Recreation.
• Junior Achievement of Dallas and Junior Achievement of Fort Worth were selected for the 2009 Sprint Local Grant Program as joint recipients of a $25,000 Sprint Foundation grant for their 2009-2010 school-year initiatives. Junior Achievement curriculum focuses on work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy and is delivered by volunteers from the local business community. The grant will fund programming in two area schools – Roark Elementary in Arlington and M.C. Lively Elementary in Irving.
• Fort Worth resident Dr. John Richardson was selected as the 2009 Sprint Community Champion adult honoree, and the Sprint Foundation will be awarding a $5,000 grant to Dr. Richardson’s selected charitable organization, The WARM Place. Dr. Richardson helped create The WARM Place 20 years ago, and the organization now serves as the model of grief-support centers throughout the country. He also started the Baby Moses Project as a response to the alarming number of infants that were being abandoned in dumpsters. His leadership on this project has helped bring about laws across the country that encourage safer alternatives.
• Dallas resident Sarah Baldwin was selected as the 2009 Sprint Youth Community Champion honoree, and the Sprint Foundation will be awarding a $2,500 grant to Baldwin’s selected charitable organization, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Baldwin is an 11^th-grade Highland Park High School student who has made an amazing impact on the juvenile diabetes community. She has been a vocal ambassador and vigorous fundraiser for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and runs the organization’s Teen Mentoring Program.
