The Secret to a Great Workplace: Employees and Community

It was one year ago that we launched ONE Sprint, a localization strategy designed to better serve our customers, connect with our communities and build stronger local teams.

This localization effort has transformed our company. Our employees don’t just work together, they work as teams. We’re not just a company anymore, we’re a part of the community. How’d we do it?

We started to get more involved at the local level, volunteering at food banks and participating in citywide cleanups. We attended events and activities to better connect with people and attract new customers, and employees collaborated to set and achieve our goals for the company.



Fast forward to 2017, and both The Atlanta Journal Constitution and the Florida Sun-Sentinel have recognized Sprint as a Top Workplace.

Employees from Sprint’s Atlanta and South Florida offices took a survey last fall that looked at several key factors including Sprint’s values and vision, effectiveness and performance, connection with employees, employee loyalty, confidence in executive leaders, and benefits such as pay, flexibility and insurance.

“Time and time again, our research has proven that what’s most important to them (employees) is a strong belief in where the organization is headed, how it’s going to get there, and the feeling that everyone is in it together,” said Doug Claffey, CEO of Workplace Dynamics, the independent research firm that administers the surveys.

Without this sense of connection, an organization doesn’t have a chance at being named a Top Workplace, Claffey said.

A Top Workplace award is more than a badge of honor for companies. It means employees have a positive work environment, they’re happy to come to work, and they’re proud of their company. These awards are particularly important because they’re based directly on feedback from the people.

Employees are telling us what’s important to them and how we’re delivering on that by:
  • Providing ongoing opportunities to offer candid feedback
  • Empowering employees with the ability to make decisions quickly
  • Showing appreciation through recognition
  • Making a difference in the communities where customers and employees live and work through programs such as the 1Million Project
  • Emphasizing the importance of workplace diversity
  • Creating a high-performance work environment that our employees recommend
  • Valuing teamwork
As Sprint leaders, it’s particularly gratifying to know that our employees believe in our company and think it’s a great place to work. But it’s the people who work here that make it amazing. They are truly one of our most valuable assets.



Our team members know how important their work is for the customers who rely on us every day, and they’re passionate about their careers at Sprint. We’re very happy about that.

Being named a top workplace is an honor every employee should be proud of, and it’s more proof that Sprint continues to get better every day.
